I've had a passion for everything arty ever since I can remember and have tried my hand at numerous different media including clay, stone, stained glass, silk screen printing and jewellery making.
However, I love to paint and since moving from London to Dorset two years ago. I have produced lots of paintings of my new surroundings. I am inspired by the beautiful coastline and countryside. As well as these paintings my work also includes portraits and still life. I also create using the mediums of sculpture and photography. I studied for a Diploma in Art and Design in the early eighties but consider myself mainly self taught.
I am happy to take commissions and work from your photos or disscuss ideas you may have to create a unique original.
Please do take a look at my website, www.artigems.co.uk and if you want to get in touch please email me.

Here at Blueberry Glass, we know you are going to just love the fused glass we make here - clean, contemporary designs in ocean inspired colours. We've been making glass gifts since 2001 and many people come back to us for their gift ideas, usually they haven't been able to part with their first purchase and need to buy another one!
It all started with a fairly small glass kiln, working from a modest workshop and producing a limited number of glass bowls and dishes. Now we have two kilns! With much larger capacity and firing scope, we can now offer a greater range of fused glass gifts. All our glass is designed with function as well as aesthetic beauty in mind - the fusing process means all pieces are fully annealed, giving you the confidence to use your Blueberry Glass as a sumptuous table centrepiece, a fruit bowl or to serve a delicious dessert at a dinner party?
As the inspiration for our glass comes from the ocean and given our location on the West Country coastline, this influence clearly shows with our current range and can be found with any new designs we are working on.
As well as the product range available here, we also produce individual designer glass for private clients and galleries, from wall hangings and larger bowls, to unique glass window panels and sculptural free-standing pieces. If you would like your own fused glass made to your requirements please contact us to discuss further and please do take a look at our website, www.blueberryglass.co.uk.

I've taken my portfolio of original and evocative wildlife photographs in the game parks of Kenya - lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and lots more. You will see many of the stars from BBC's Big Cat Week. You'll find Kike, Honey and Toto the cheetahs, as well as Zawadi the leopard. And there's Cheza and Sala from the Ridge Pride of lions as well as Notch and Tamu from the Marsh Pride who featured as a main storyline in the 2007 series.
There is a magic about Africa that is difficult to describe but it captures the imagination and never fades. The sights and sounds stay with you and are unique to a vast continent where the scenery and wildlife truly are magnificent. What I'm hoping to do is convey that magic in pictures. Why not bring some of that magic into your home? You can purchase any of these pictures beautifully mounted in a quality wooden frame and the larger sizes are available as signed de-luxe editions as well. They make great presents. They can also be supplied with a mount for you to frame yourself or as greetings cards for those special occasions.

BRUCE CONNELL's art is hanging in homes all over the world. Having earned a degree in three-dimensional design from Reigate School of Arts and Crafts, early commissions included a church font at Christ the King Church in Salfords, Surrey and a large fibreglass frieze for a school building. He designed a "Lifeboatman" collection box, several of which were used by the independently-financed Clovelly lifeboat in North Devon.
He has worked as a portrait artist in Spain from where his work has reached a worldwide audience.
Bruce now specialises in figure-work and seascapes. Some of his paintings display almost photographic accuracy, but he has also developed a popular comic-book style of landscape. He's recently been inspired by mountains, and has also been working on a looser technique in nude studies culminating in his latest nude sketches in red.
In the last twelve months he has held one-man exhibitions in Lymington, Boscombe, Milford-on-Sea and Highcliffe Castle, Hampshire.
Bruce Connell will be exhibiting at Sherborne on 23 & 24 October, Bridport on 14 November and Dorchester on 12 December. |

I retired from a full-time teaching post in 1999, in order to concentrate more fully on making my own work. Since then, I have focused on producing a range of simple vessel forms including bowls and vases in matt and textural glazes mainly in turquoise through to mauve colours.
Many of my bowls have textural or pierced rims and some have glass melted into the base. In my colours and textures, I am indirectly referring to my long term interest in the sea, coastal rocks, erosion, fossils, shells and coral.
I also make a small range of every day practical ware, in a variety of blue and green colours, mainly mugs, jugs, bowls and teapots.
I mainly use a pale firing stoneware clay body (B17C from Valentine Clays Ltd. of Stoke on Trent). Occasionally, I use a porcelain clay.
My larger, hand (slab or coil) built pieces are made with clay, which I have modified by the addition of sand, grog or grit and occasionally, I have impressed small shards of fired ceramic or glass into the surface. All my work is fired in an electric kiln, first biscuited to 1000C then to cone 8 about 1250C.
Please visit my website at www.dbpottery.co.uk to view a wide selection of my work, as well as a short video clip of me throwing a pot.

Delightfully Dotty
|
Welcome to Delightfully Dotty - home of unique, affordable, stoneware ceramics handmade in Dorchester by Susan Rostron.
After 30 years as a primary teacher Susan decided to turn her skills to moulding clay rather than the lives of small children. Clay doesn't answer back, she says. Susan makes items that could be called potty, whimsical and delightfully dotty. Susan's main creative interests extend to ceramics, low relief wood carving and mosaics.
Her ceramics represent her present outlook after years of submersion in the education system ... that life can change completely and is full of surprises and promise; but no matter how one's path may twist and turn there is always something good and precious at the heart of things.
All Susan's pottery is fired to at least 1230oC, which means that it is:
- impermeable to water and watertight, so ideal for holding flowers
- frostproof, so suitable for garden use
- dishwasher safe
- microwave safe, although some of the glazes contain iron and the container may become hotter than the contents! Be warned!
Delightfully Dotty will be exhibiting at Bridport on 25 July, Weymouth on 15 & 16 August and Sherborne on 23 & 24 October. |

Sheet pewter is an ancient craft used by Romans and, by the Middle Ages, England became the centre of the Medieval world. Craftsmen banded together to protect their craft and insisted on standards. By 1348 The Worshipful Company of Pewter was formed and given a Royal Charter in 1473 by King Edward 1V.
The consistency of copper has become more safe to use over the years by decreasing the lead level, but it is still malleable to work with. This allows it to be bent into most shapes and easily cut by scissors. Care should be taken when preparing, because scratches or marks can never be removed. Today once again pewter is enjoying world wide interest among amateurs and professional craftsmen. Tooling of pewter has always been popular, its a fascinating hobby which can be very rewarding.
I have been interested in crafts over many years. After I retired from a very busy career in 1980's, I enrolled at local craft courses, first completing courses on Enamelling and Ceramics. It was later when dong courses on Pewter and Painting on Silk that I found crafts that caught my attention. While living in Cornwall I used to exhibit my work and sell at craft shows and, since moving to Dorset, am now exhibiting with The Dorset Art and Craft Show.
Dorothy Goad will be exhibiting at Bridport on 25 July and Dorchester on 12 December. |

Mandy Staple began painting and pencil drawing as a hobby and then became bitten by the bug of pyrography after visiting a woodland and craft fair.
Having learnt the techniques of wood burning from an excellent teacher in South Wales, and combining her love of the natural world she has gone on to produce stunning and beautiful floral and wildlife illustrations. Using all locally sourced material from sustainable woodlands, images are drawn onto the wood and then the outlines and shading are burnt in before being individually hand painted. Inspiration for the artwork comes from a wide range of places including source, pattern and guide books, magazines and her own photography.
Mandy is an active member of the Dorset Coppice Group whose aim is to raise the profile of coppiced woodland and the products it produces. She also has a interest in flowers and is a keen birdwatcher and photographer.
You can visit www.hedgerowcrafts.co.uk to see more examples of Mandy's craft. All the artwork in her online gallery are original pieces of pyrography in which no two pieces of work can ever be the same.

Ian Harris Ceramics
|
After studying painting, printmaking, and ceramics at St Luke's College Exeter, Ian Harris went on to teach ceramics and sculpture for many years at schools in Essex, Kent, and Dorset. He now lives and works in the beautiful village of Corfe Castle, at the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, in Dorset.
Over the last past forty years he has been honing and developing a unique range of hand built stoneware vases and bowls, all based on his observations of natural forms.
Every piece is individually created, using objects such as beach pebbles, sea shells, seed pods and clusters of garden bulbs as initial inspiration.
The curved organic forms that he creates are further enhanced by the heavy use of texture, and metal oxides rubbed into the surface. Recent work has included a series of coiled bowls echoing the rhythms and shapes of the Dorset landscape.
Ian Harris's work has gone to private collections in America, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany, and Holland.

An elite range of bags to our own designs in a variety of fabrics, styles and finishes to satisfy the most discerning customer. Almost all of our bags are absolutely unique (Chris’s Studio label). There are a few that are limited editions (Jhasper label), usually three or four identical bags in a design. From time to time the designs available may vary according to any number of factors, for example the materials at our disposal, the styles and finishes currently popular, or just because of our own 'whim or fancy'! One of the most important aspects of our product range is the quality of the workmanship and the materials. Everything we make is handcrafted, and if you are ever in a position to pick up one of our bags you will see for yourself that the quality does quite literally ''speak for itself''. The textures and richness of the fabrics, the style and finish of the handles, the superb linings, and the wonderful variety of pockets and closures and fittings. All have to be seen and touched and ‘felt’ to be fully appreciated. By the very nature of the products we want to make, the fabrics we use for our bags are those you would expect to be used for upholstery and home furnishings of the highest quality. I have always had a passion for textiles and have always loved fabrics with a luxurious feel to them, fabrics which are colourful and fabrics which drape well. I now design and hand weave my own fabrics on a 24 shaft compu-dobby loom. Each fabric is designed to be suitable for its use whether it is to be worn as a scarf, made into a handbag or made into a garment. My love of colour and texture is reflected in my work and current exploration of collapse weaves to produce "bumpy" fabrics. Inspiration for fabric designs often comes from natural sources which are colourful and have an interesting surface quality in texture or pattern.
Many of my scarves are hand dyed after weaving and are thus totally unique. Textured scarves are available in several ranges: Bubbles and Ripples in either cotton/wool or silk/wool; Concertina in wool/cotton lycra; and Fibonacci pleat wraps in acrylic/cotton and wool. Flat scarves are available in the Colour and Weave range. Prices for scarves range from £49 to £89 which includes free post and packing to a UK address, please contact me for stock availability.
All the handbags, smaller clutch bags and purses I make have been designed and hand made incorporating my own hand woven fabrics. The fabrics are woven in short lengths and no more than five handbags or purses are made in any colour/shape combination.Prices for handbags range from £45 to £69, while the smaller clutch bags are £22 and purses are £12 (including postage).
Tapestries by their very nature are a labour of love being slow to produce but the result is an image with both surface texture and depth.Prices for tapestries range from £50 to £60 for single tapestries and are £175 for triptyches (not including postage).
I live and work in Poole, Dorset, exhibiting and selling my work through local craft galleries and carefully selected craft shows. Please visit my website for more information and images. My work will be featured as "Maker of the Month" in the Walford Mill Crafts shop during March 2010.
Karen will be exhibiting at The Dorset Art & Craft Show in Dorchester on Saturday 11th December. |

Mary Elliott is a collection of jewellery, inspired by designs from the past 100 years and a love of natural beauty. Mixing vintage finds with new and unusual beads and findings. Some of the pieces are ‘one off’ as the materials are hard to source. Friends and family have been very happy with unique and ‘something special’ pieces of jewellery.
Quality, unusual materials and beads are very important and are carefully sourced from the USA, Europe, Italy and Australia. Czech glass, lucite, wood, shell, glass pearls, swarovski diamantes, semi-precious stones and high quality metal findings are used.
All pieces are handcrafted and carefully packaged creating a wonderful keepsake or gift for any occasion.
Mary Elliott will be exhibiting at Bridport on 25 July, Weymouth on 15 & 16 August, Sherborne on 23 & 24 October and Dorchester on 12 December. |

Peter Thomas
|
Based in the West Dorset countryside in the village of Rampisham, my workshop and gallery are centred in and around a 15th century thatched cottage.
A retired farmer, I started woodturning using locally sourced timber which was either dead, storm-damaged, thinnings or hedgerow. My passion is using natural-edged pieces designed to highlight the many varied colours and markings within the wood caused naturally by disease or injury. If I have a mission in life it is to make people more aware of the diverse beauty and variety of our natural species without having to import timber, often from a non-sustainable source.
As a family tradition from my farming days, I also make traditional shepherds' crooks, working and walking sticks using locally sourced materials from the hedgerow including rams horn, deer antler and shafts.
I can be visited at any time by prior notice to view the gallery and workshop to see work in progress.
Peter Thomas will be exhibiting at Sherborne on 23 & 24 October. |

Smocking is a traditional method of decorating fabric in the form of surface embroidery and has been used since the late 18th century for practical, worker’s garments in rural areas but is still very much recognised and appreciated today and can be used in many non-traditional ways.
Through smocking for many years now, Rosalind has come to appreciate smocking for its own sake as a tactile textile and now uses it in many different and contemporary ways developing a range of quality silk goods featuring smocking. She also makes silk bridesmaids dresses and christening gowns and other items of children’s clothing to order. Rosalind still makes traditional smocks for adults in linen, often basing her designs on examples held in the textile collection held at The Dorset County Museum. She has exhibited her work at the Dorset Arts and Crafts Association annual exhibition and has been pleased to win awards including in 2003 the Dorset Shield for her child’s traditional round smock and in 2005 The Ragsdale Trophy for a silk christening set of gown, bonnet and shoes all featuring smocking.
Rosalind started making Dorset Buttons to compliment the traditional smocks, but has since found them very popular as brooches and presented as bookmarks. She is willing to make sets of buttons to finish special garments.
Rosalind Atkins will be exhibiting at Bridport on 25 July, Weymouth on 15 & 16 August, Sherborne on 23 & 24 October and Dorchester on 12 December. |

My name is Sarah Fraser and I am a dress designer/maker and textile artist living and working on the Dorset/Somerset border.
I have produced individually designed clothes for 25 years and after a Foundation in Art and Design studied Fashion and Textiles in Bath. My passion is to create individually designed dresses for any occasion.
The clothes I make come under two general categories, Posh Frocks and Recycled Material. Posh Frocks are everything from wedding and bridesmaid dresses, to prom and evening dresses, to simple yet stunning party outfits. The difference between these dresses and one bought from the high street is that they are unique, tailored to fit you and the colours don't have to be 'this seasons' as sometimes these colours don't suit the occasion or you!
The Recycled Material items I design are even more unique as I even make the fabric itself. From your chosen colours a fabric is stiched together before being created into a stunning garment. This process is more time consuming, but I hope you agree that the results are definately worth it.
With both Posh Frocks and Recycled Material clothing ranges, each dress or item of clothing I produce is unique and fitted perfectly to the wearer so, if you are looking for something individual, please contact me for a free consultation via my website www.sassdesigns.co.uk.
Sass Designs will be exhibiting at Dorchester on 12 December. |

My pyrography artwork are all original pieces which are burnt and shaded with a hot nib, some are then hand painted to give a hint of colour. The grain, figure and any natural faults in the wood are used to form part of the picture. These are sold at galleries, exhibitions and by commission. The wood is all sourced locally and from managed woodlands and prepared in my workshop. Inspiration comes from various sources including magazines, my own photography and my love of the natural world.

Sue Britton BA Hons Textile Design
‘dogsinstitches’ textiles
I’m a decorative artist living in Dorset machine embroidering textile pictures and accessories inspired by our own three dogs; an irish setter and two cocker spaniels. My other dog characters are inspired by the wonderful assortment of dogs I walk voluntarily at our local dog rescue home.
My dogsinstitches textiles are quirky and fun and intended to make people smile when they see my happy dogs laughing and having fun! I aim to capture the characters of dogs and their antics in my designs.
My work is full of colour and pattern and embellished with lots of decorative detail. My dogs are created by ‘taking a line for a walk’ with a sewing machine to sketch their shapes and detail with stitching. My work is both 2D and 3D to add movement to my pictures.
I love to draw, make patterns and use colour and my work is an expression of these three things and my love of dogs! Please look at my dogsinstitches website to see more examples of my work and I hope I make you smile!

Susie Bond Table Mats are beautiful, durable melamine table mats in five different shapes and sizes. Round and rectangular placemats, round and square coasters and large, elegant rectangular serving mats for the sideboard or centre of the dining table. All the table mats have a dark green felt type backing and are packed in sets of six in chic black gift boxes with my logo on the top.
I also have small Melamine trays with a white trim, just right to take into the garden. Also new to the range are my Hot Mats. Made of toughened, re-cycled glass, Hot Mats are dishwasher proof and able to stand the heat of a frying pan or cookpot straight from the oven. They can be used to roll pastry, chop vegetables and countless other kitchen tasks (especially the messy ones). My friend Judy likes her Frosted Leaf Hot Mat so much that it lives permanently in the middle of her kitchen-cum-dining table. If it isn't covered by a pot of steaming, delicious casserole it has a vase of beautiful flowers on it, set off to perfection by the Frosted Leaf.
Some of my designs will be familiar and I have introduced new images which extend the range beyond the Seashore and Floral themes. 'Ripples' is an image of the river bed of the Spey, in Scotland. Wonderful patterns of light in the ripples are caught by the camera. 'Ice fantastic' and 'Crystals' are amazing forms of frozen water, the first on glass, the second being snow crystals on a gate post. The 'Pebble' rises above the frozen water of Loch Morlich, at the foot of the Cairngorm mountain.
I have introduced some new flowers and leaves, including the jazzy 'Holly Dazzle' which will look marvellous at Christmas and just as lovely all the year round. Two charming roses, the pink Queen of Denmark and the delicate Rosa Rubifolia (spot the little aphid?) contrast with the spikey 'Allium' and the simple woodland 'Stitchwort'. As a complete contrast there is the 'Chain' lying across the bark of a tree, the colours and textures complimenting each other extraordinarily well.

For the last 16 years Vivien Graham has been creating and selling designer knitwear in and around Dorset. Using the finest, natural yarns, Vivien now has her own range of over 200 garments in different styles and colours. With over 100 garments always in stock, her extensive range includes a small exclusive collection of Alpaca coats and jackets, using Alpaca from a small herd in Devon.
Vivien's love for her craft came when her brother bought her a set of knitting needles and wool when she was just nine. Qualifying from Southampton University in Fashion & Design in 1990, Vivien started to exhibit garments at local fairs. Managing her time between three children and running a home, her love for designing beautiful knitwear continued to grow. Vivien become a resident craft worker at Stapehill Abbey, Wimborne where she still has very strong ties today.
Vivien has received many accolades for her work, the most recent being a gold, silver and 3 highly commended awards at the Bovington Arts and Craft Show. Please visit Vivien's website and feel free to contact Vivien if you have any individual needs or if you have a design that you would like her to consider making. I began making soap for my family as christmas presents, which
was a great success. I enjoyed making soap so much that I carried
on making it in the home and began to sell it through craft fairs,
flower shows, etc, such as Stourhead, Cleeve House and Lacock, to name a few.
The soap is made from the finest oils, such as olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil
with extras like bees wax, cocoa butter, shea butter and apricot kernel oil which all create a hard, creamy soap. Also added are essential oils with their special
properties, giving the soap that extra fragrance. Each bar of soap is hand
wrapped with my own unique designs.
I believe hand made soap is a little luxury which everyone should enjoy.
I do 'wedding favours' and I am happy to accommodate customers
requirements for colour themes, materials, wrappings, etc.
